After pulling radiator etc. The back bracket mounts for the compressor had become loose and the vibaration of the compressor had loosened the front timing cover bolts. He said that checking those back bolts every few months would have alleviated the problem. This was also a good time to change the belts, some hoses and the tension pulley. If you are ever in search of a good mechanic in the Detroit area, try American Diesel in Romulus. Not much to look at but have always done good work for me.
Full front cover re-seals on a CAT are a big job, and it is practically all labor. I'm surprised the front cover did not crack and need to be replaced. It sounds like it might have taken 3 hrs.
The truck was in the bay all day almost 8 hours because they had to order a couple different alternators and mine of course had to be one that wasn't readily available and did not match the part number it called for usualy my luck. Anyhow they only charged me wrenching time, and not six extra hours of door time. Unlike alott of other places do. By the way, Farmington Towing came to the rescue and again the pricing was reasonable abbout Last edited: Mar 15, You must log in or register to reply here.Log in or Sign up.
Find Trucking Jobs. C7 m2 caterpillar oil leak help!! Jun 25, 1. New to the site hope to find some knowledgeable people that might help with my nightmare. I have a box truck with a c7 cat m2 since the day I bought it I been having oil leak issues.
Took it to a shop and had all gaskets from driver side replaced and still leaks. After reading online alot of people said that it's coming from inside of engine. Probably worn ring on a piston and goes through crankcase and out blowout tube. The advice I got to fix that was to just get a long blowout tube and re route over the engine to the other side and gravity would keep oil from going all the way out and just come back in.

It made sense so I tried it. I also tried putting a breather cap instead of oil cap to help with pressure so oil wouldn't shoot out. Again, made sense I tried it. It's still leaking!! I just read now that those engines come with a shallow slump inside so oil dipstick is not accurate. If that was true at some point when I loose enough oil I would see the leak stop and it doesn't. I was also told to use oil instead I'm afraid to screw this engine up just trying stuff can someone shine some light please.
These engines are notorious for this from what I hear. Someone has to be able to guide me in the right direction. I'm tired of pouring a gallon every 4 or 5 days. Thanks in advance!
